My new job is heavily unified communications and Exchange centric, so a lot of my posts now will have an OCS/Lync Server focus.
Now that I use and rely on the Lync client to do my work throughout the day, I've come to depend on hot (clickable) phone numbers in emails and meeting requests just like web and email addresses. That way, all I have to do is click the phone number and it opens up in the Lync client.
To make a phone number clickable, simply preface it with the tel: prefix like this:
tel:1-415-555-1212 or tel:14155551212
You can hide the tel: prefix by inserting a hyperlink for a phone number which includes the tel: prefix, like this:
(415)555-1212
Be aware that hyperlinked phone numbers can be wrong or misleading! For example, this link for (415)555-1212 actually calls (650)555-4444.
If you see a phone number in Outlook where the sender did not include the tel: prefix, simply right-click the phone number, select Additional Actions, and click Call.

Yes, there is.
ReplyDeleteType the phone number, highlight it, and press Ctrl-K to add a hyperlink. Enter the link as tel:415-555-1212.

ReplyDeleteIs there a way to click on the numbers and have them create the dial tones, without opening up a separate call? For our internal conference calls, I would like to be able to click on the access code and have it create the tones for a call I am already dialed in to.

DeleteIs there a way to put phone numbers, call id numbers and passwords in the location line in an outlook meeting invitation? For instance, my phone contacts (Android) allow me to separate a phone number from an extension with a semicolon. I open the contact, select the number from my touchscreen, the phone dials the number. Once the call is connected a message appears asking me if I want to send the numbers that represent the extension. I click 'yes'. The extension is entered. Works great! I want to do the same thing by entering conference call numbers, call id's and passwords on the location line of Outlook meeting invitations so I do not have to start a call and then navigate to the meeting invitation to get the rest of the information. Any ideas?
