Is Siri not working on your new iPhone 4S? Here's the fix!

Friday, October 14, 2011
"Sorry, I'm having trouble connecting to the network."

"Sorry, I'm not able to connect right now."

"Sorry, I don't have a network connection."

These are the only three replies I got from Siri, the new digital assistant, on my new Apple iPhone 4S.  I see quite a few people are also having the same problem.  The fix is really simple:

  • Tap Settings
  • Tap General
  • Scroll to the bottom and tap Reset
  • Tap Reset Network Settings, as shown below.

The phone will reboot.  Go back into Settings > Wi-Fi and reconfigure your network settings.  All is good!

It seems this is affecting people who upgraded their iPhones with a new iPhone 4S and restored from backup.  Apparently the restore operation is not restoring network settings as it should.

  10. When this happened to me the first time, it was under my home wifi. I forgot the network and reconfigured and it worked. It happened again later while I was under 3G. Tried the fix above and it still doesn't work. I'm beginning to think its server overload on Apples end.

  11. Had to reset "all settings" for this to work for me but it worked. My data was not touched. AS a second level of help, everyone try that.

  15. Out of the box I had to enable Siri. Siri worked fine Friday night through earlySaturday morning. In town later this morning with free WiFi and 5 bar 3G, Siri had network issues. Later in the afternoon all was well and Siri was able to communicate. Scary future when we all iCloud our iTunes music, videos, pictures and data.

  23. New iPhone customer, no upgrade. Siri worked for a while and then couldn't connect to the network. Resetting the network solved the problem. It happened again the next day. Resetting the network didn't fix it. Later on, after the phone froze up and I had to do a hard reset, Siri started working again. Siri definitely has issues here.
