Cloning Windows Server 2008 Disks with Norton Ghost

Friday, April 4, 2008

Just in case you're wondering, Norton Ghost 11.0.2 works just fine on Windows Server 2008 formatted disks.
I cloned a simple volume 160GB Western Digital disk to a new Western Digital 500MB disk in 47 minutes. I swapped the cables and booted up to the new drive without a hitch.

  1. Thanks for the article. So Ghost 11.0.2 works to clone Win 2008.
Any idea if Ghost 14 can also clone a win2008 harddisk successfully?

  2. I was unsuccessful with Ghost 8.0, also getting a Windows Boot Manager - Windows failed to start error. Using Ghost 11.0.2, I successfully imaged a smaller VMware vmdk hard drive to a larger one.

  4. Just a tip to others that have come across this while googling for an answer - indeed, Norton Ghost 11 (boot disk) does successfully clone Windows 2008 Server from one drive to another. I tried higher versions of Ghost with no luck. Norton Ghost 11 Corporate Edition DOS boot iso is fairly small, around 3 MB.
